Occultism: a Gateway Toward Destruction (Part 1)

Biblical text:“I will also turn against those who commit spiritual prostitution by putting their trust in mediums or in those who consult the spirits of the dead. I will cut them off from the community. So set yourselves apart to be holy, for I am the Lord your God. (Leviticus 20:6-7 NLT)

The truth is that occultism is the gateway toward death in the spiritual, physical, financial, in the family, and so on.

Did you know that many people ignore that practicing or even wishing for that netherworld brings curses?

Let’s see first what occultism is:

What is occultism?

It’s a term that is used to describe any practice that is utilized with the intention of obtaining power or supernatural knowledge outside of the Bible and far away from the Almighty God in Christ Jesus. Occultism is like a fan that encompasses superstitions, fortune-telling, spiritualism, black or white magic, accompanied by parapsychology, among other things as well.

The word “occult” comes from the Latin “occultus,” which means: “hidden, concealed, disguised.” A person that practices occultism to have supernatural powers will always do it in secret in order to hunt and catch their prey; which are souls or people. Why do you think they work on the grounds of idolatry? Let’s see what the Bible tells us, which is the only trustworthy source for all human beings.

“You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me. But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands.” (Exodus 20:4-6 NLT)

When you look through social media or around the city you live in and can see the signs of people that promise to help you with fortune-telling, superstitions, spiritualism (speaking with loved ones that have died), white or black magic, tarot cards, reading of coffee grounds and tea leaves, that is when you have to realize that they’re liars and they only seek to deceive you to take all your money; but even more so, they seek to bind you in such a way that you will need to run back to them, to depend on them and even to want to become like them. These are the signs that you have been deceived by spirits or demons that control and lie.

What does the Bible say to us about this?

But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies and even deny the Master who bought them. In this way, they will bring sudden destruction on themselves. Many will follow their evil teaching and shameful immorality. And because of these teachers, the way of truth will be slandered. (2 Peter 2:1-2 NLT)

Before I continue elaborating on this devotional’s topic: Can a Christian exercise or participate in occultism? Did you know that many Christians when they don’t receive an immediate answer from the Lord Jesus Christ are seduced by demons to participate in the occult?

What does the Bible say about this?

No born again Christian that has been washed and purchased by the Blood of Christ can ever participate of occultism under NO circumstance. The Bible says that when we convert, we stop sinning. Participating of occultism is sin according to the Bible; therefore, if you’re still participating of it directly or indirectly, then you’re sinning. It means that you’re not steadfast in the things of the Lord and Savior of all humanity Jesus Christ.

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments. Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God. (1 John 5:1-5 NLT)

What must I do if I’ve participated of occultism while being a Christian?

You must recognize that you’ve sinned and ask the Lord Jesus Christ for forgiveness. You must take on the initiative to ask the Holy Spirit to spill over you the Blood of Jesus Christ in order to be free. You must throw away everything that you have in your house or on your body that you use as an amulet.

This is what the Sovereign Lord says: What sorrow awaits you women who are ensnaring the souls of my people, young and old alike. You tie magic charms on their wrists and furnish them with magic veils. Do you think you can trap others without bringing destruction on yourselves? (Ezekiel 13:18 NLT)

The Bible teaches us that only the Blood of Jesus can cleanse us once and for all. Of course, that means go and sin no more; if you don’t value what Jesus did for you, you will be trapped in the devil’s bondages.

But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:7 NLT)

God doesn’t want you to self-destruct, therefore you need to get away from all those practices, which are the latest trends and that make uncomfortable the God that loves us so much and that draw us away from Him, such as:

Fortune-telling, spiritualism, white and black magic, supernatural phenomena, superstitions, shamanism, scientology, freemasonry, occultism, new age practices, etc.

Next week we will keep learning more about the Word of God in order to not fall in the devil’s lies.

Repeat this prayer with me:

Beloved Heavenly Father, I wish to acknowledge that I have fallen in the world of occultism out of need or because I inherited that from my loved ones. Today I acknowledge that this world of darkness along with its satanic priests have deceived me and caused me to deviate from God’s truth. I wish to renounce to all these practices and I take responsibility through the power of the Person of the Holy Spirit to get away from them once and for all and from the people that practice them.

Now I beg the God of mercy, that through the Blood of His Son Jesus Christ to cleanse me from all sin and from all sacrifices that I have made in the world of darkness. I cancel every pact that I have done with Satan and his demons. I cancel every pact that my parents or loved ones have done with me for Satan. I believe right now that I am cleansed by the Blood that Jesus spilled for me at Calvary. I am saved, I am free, I am an heir of the blessings of the Heavenly Father in Christ our Savior. Amen, amen and amen!
