Why Am I Rusting?
What is rust?
Iron oxide is a like a dark crystal or brownish red dust. Iron oxide is on the dangerous substance list… watch out!
You’re rusting due to your exposition to the spiritual climate to which we’re all exposed to in the spiritual realm. The Apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:12 tells us that we wrestle not against what we see but against the things that we do not see. If you’re not well lubricated with the oil of the Person of the Holy Spirit, then you could be in danger of entering into a stage of corrosion and oxidation (rusting). This will lead you to spiritual death not only in your own life, but also in those people that are closest and most dear.
So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see. (Revelations 3:18 NLT)
What causes us to rust spiritually?
One of the things that cause it is when we’re exposed to unbelief, comfort and spiritual distraction.
a) Not nourishing ourselves with the Word of God.
- Being in places where you’re not nourished, therefore your growth is sickly or stunted.
Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment. (1 Peter 2:2 NLT)
b) They lack exercising the Word of God.
-They don’t put to practice forgiveness, love, being concerned for others and going after the lost.
So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.
18 Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.” (James 2:17-18 NLT)
c) Physical stress and spiritual imbalance.
- Due to hearing so many fallacious/misleading teachings, consulting with pythonesses/witches, to their traditions, practices of the occult, and so on, the devil drags them from one place to another. They have no direction or guide.
Avoid worthless, foolish talk that only leads to more godless behavior. 17 This kind of talk spreads like cancer, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus. 18 They have left the path of truth, claiming that the resurrection of the dead has already occurred; in this way, they have turned some people away from the faith. (2 Timothy 2:16-18 NLT)
d) Exposure to unbelieving people and to people that talk about God but have never had an encounter with Jesus.
- This is when in order to not look bad to our loved ones and friends we do, say or think things that don’t please God.
But Peter told him, “May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! 21 You have no part or share in this matter, because your heart is not right before God. (Acts 8:20-21 CSB)
e) Taking “expired medication.”
- This is when we hear so many radio or TV shows with teachings that please us, but that displease God. Examples: “The tithe is for the Old Testament,” “you should not speak in tongues,” “it’s not bad to go see a fortune-teller,” “Halloween is just a day for us to have fun,” and so on.
Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons. (1 Timothy 4:1 NLT)]
f) What can we do to help us come out of that stage of rusting (oxidation)?
We must return to God, look for a church that is Christ-centered, that is closer to the cross than to our house. Many people congregate just anywhere, merely because the church is close to their house. Well, I’m sorry to tell you that if you want to stop being a rusted Christian then you must look for a church that proclaims that Jesus came as a servant and returns as a King, that you are an ambassador of Christ; that you’re not just another one in the bunch, but that there are many people that are waiting for you to share with them what God has done in your life. How many people have you done Invasion of God’s Love to?
Go and share with everyone around you and with those you find along the way what Jesus of Nazareth has done with you!
The man from whom the demons had departed begged him earnestly to be with him. But he sent him away and said, 39 “Go back to your home, and tell all that God has done for you.” And off he went, proclaiming throughout the town how much Jesus had done for him (Luke 8:38-39 CSB)
